The Wingnuts are on an extended road trip to make room at Hap Dumont's place for the 82nd Annual National Baseball Congress World Series. This series began in 1935, in a ball field on an island in the Arkansas River, and directly led to the construction of what was then Lawrence Stadium.
The league is for college-age amateur baseball players, but there will be a generational battle this year as a MLB All-Stars team will take the field with an impressive roster:
Opening day is a Dollar Day with vouchers available at QuikTrips - Sunday is the next Dollar Day. Baseball 'Round The Clock will take place August 5-7, and there are a host of other special days listed on the NBC World Series site.
