May 2018 minutes

The May 14th Delano Neighborhood Meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM. 26 attended including three firemen and three officers. Board members present were president Vincent, Vice President Mistie, Treasurer Dorothy and our district directors, LaVerne Blasi and Leslie Kinder.

We welcomed our 2018 Windwagon Smith, Tim Norton. He told us about the upcoming Wichita River Festival.

Marilyn Bower talked about the New WSU Tech program and had pamphlets to give to those interested.

Sharon and Saundra from Walmart told about the new shop and drive tower at Pawnee and Broadway and how you can shop online for groceries and other items and pick them up at the store at a scheduled time. They also had goodie bags of products for each attendee.

The minutes from the March meeting were not read as the Secretary was absent for health reasons.

The Fire Dept gave their report.

The Police report was given by Officer Tejada and he introduced our local beat officers Brandon Clayton and Adam Vandermolen. A session of questions and answers followed.

Our Vice President, Mistie gave a report about the Rock the Block kick-off party and reported about 150 attended. There were 19 free haircuts and 30 prizes were given away. She also reported about the new Girl Scout troop that has been formed by her and Kendice. Two new Project meetings are planned at New Covenant.

McCormick and Hyde neighbors have asked for guidance getting restarted. Delano United had its meeting on April 17.

Don't confuse the Delano Neighborhood Association with a Downtown group that are calling themselves the Downtown DNA.

Vincent gave the president's report. We filled 2-1/4 dumpsters with waste at the spring cleanup.

Becky Fields of the City reported about Westar's Street Lights replacement project.

Janet Wilson from WIN reported about the options belonging to WIN and the IRS reports that must be sent for tax exempt organizations. We voted to pay them $35.00 for membership.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Board Report was given by Christopher Parisho.

A youth volunteer gave an apology for misbehavior at a previous meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
